I briefly mentioned last week that I'm about to embark upon a new crochet along.  This one actually began back in January and runs for 20 weeks.  Obviously, I'm starting late, but I'm not alone in doing so ~ and best of all, there's no cut-off date.

I actually discovered the precursor design to this crochet along late last year.  It is an afghan called Sophie's Garden and immediately appealed to me for the challenge it presented.  I pinned it to my Pinterest account with the view to coming back to it at some future date when I had completed all my WIPs.

You can imagine my delight when I later discovered that the intricate afghan has been expanded into Sophie's Universe and that the pattern was being released as a part of a crochet along!  Oh. My. God.  The photos people were posting of their Sophies had me salivating.  I just HAD to get started!!

But then I became overwhelmed.  How do you choose your colour palette?  I don't have an abundant stash of left over yarns.  And my OCD nature wouldn't want to work that haphazardly anyway.  Nor did any of the three suggested kits appeal to me fully.  So I spent several weeks looking for the most cost effect yarn available and pouring over countless photos trying to decide what colour combinations appeal to me the most.

I eventually decided to make two Sophies.  A monotone white one (I actually wanted off white, but it wasn't available in the most cost effective yarn) and the second one I'm referring to as "rustic" (comprised of cream, beige, camel, brown, and copper red).  The yarn is 50% wool and 50% acrylic and coming from Turkey, I knew I had a long wait ahead for delivery.  But that's okay.  It was a fraction of the cost of purchasing locally.  By more than half.  Including shipping!!

So I waited...

...and waited...

...and waited...

...and waited some more...

Until happiness arrived... wrapped in white plastic:

...just look at those delicious colours:

I can't wait to get started!!
