Today I am grateful for...

...not having to sit in bumper-to-bumper traffic on a daily basis.  I'm sure I'm a lot calmer and better able to enjoy the slow trip when its a novelty.

I am also grateful for delicious savoury treats during incredibly sobering workshops...

I've always held strong views on suicide reporting laws in New Zealand.  Today I heard the (opposing) views of a doctor who's devoted her entire life to studying suicide and preventative programmes.  She made some very valid points and I must say, I am now sitting firmly on the fence.

Never underestimate the power of listening to people with opposing views to your own.  Truly listening.  Listening with intent to understand their point of view.

Equally, she took on board some of the comments and challenges from the rest of the group.  We were all learning from each other.  The expert recognising that she too is continually learning.

So today I added to my suicide management skills.  But more than this, I had the opportunity to meet other professionals (psychologists, mental health nurses, physio therapists, and social workers), hear their stories, make new connections, and realise that we live in a truly small world.

...

I then came home to find this treat on my doorstep...

AND another fan to add to my collection... two makes a collection, right?

Is it still called Groundhog Day when you're experiencing the same thing within 24 hours?  Yes, that's me, back in peak hour traffic.  Attempting to get over the bridge for the third time within ten hours.  I must be insane.  But its all for a good cause.  And despite the slow crawl and feeling rather drained from the workshop earlier today, I still felt remarkably calm.  Especially once I knew that I would, in fact, arrive to the Mindfulness course on time.  Just.  But on time nonetheless...

Last but not least, I am grateful for hair dye.  More importantly, the fact that I have an appointment at the salon tomorrow.  I wonder if today's adventures have added to these...

Sleep beckons.
